Description
The Mercury Laxmi Statue idol holds great significance in attracting wealth, riches, affluence, and prosperity. Maa Lakshmi is the revered Goddess of both material and spiritual abundance. The term ”Laxmi” is derived from the Sanskrit word Laksme, which means “Wealth.” Thus, Lakshmi embodies all forms of wealth, encompassing worldly and spiritual aspects.
In Hindu mythology, Maa Lakshmi is the divine consort of Lord Vishnu and the embodiment of riches and opulence. In the Vedas, she is referred to as ‘Sri Laxmi,’ symbolizing prosperity. Worshiping the Parad Lakshmi Murti represents a sense of contentment with abundance and a feeling of responsibility towards it. She is portrayed as an exquisitely beautiful Goddess seated on a lotus flower, with lotuses in different stages of bloom held in her two hands. She adorns a necklace of lotus flowers around her neck, symbolizing her divine connection with this sacred flower.
Goddess Laxmi is often depicted riding on one of three vehicles. In her benevolent form, Satvik Guna, she accompanies Lord Vishnu on Garuda, the eagle. In her materialistic form, Raja Guna, she is depicted with two elephants on either side of her. The owl, representing the negative aspect of wealth, is considered a symbol of darkness and is associated with illness in women. However, the owl also symbolizes knowledge and intellect due to its ability to perceive impending danger.
The four arms of Goddess Lakshmi symbolize the four directions in space, signifying her omnipresence and power. Her lotus flower seat indicates that one should enjoy the riches of the world without becoming overly attached to them, just like a lotus that blooms in water but remains unaffected by it.
The lotus in the back right hand signifies the importance of performing one’s duties in accordance with dharma, leading to liberation, represented by the lotus flower in the back left hand. The golden coins pouring from the front left hand demonstrate her bestowal of prosperity and opulence upon her devotees.
Goddess Laxmi’s front right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing upon her devotees. As the consort of Lord Vishnu, Parad Laxmi embodies all forms of wealth and is the bestower of great beauty.
Throughout the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, Lakshmi accompanies him in various forms – as Rukmini with Krishna and Sita with Rama. Astha Laxmi refers to her eight avatars, which are commonly worshipped. In each aspect, she bestows a specific type of wealth upon her devotees. Numerous prayers and ceremonies are performed to seek her blessings.
